YU Yutopia - The world's most powerful phone?

Micromax - the leading smartphone manufacturer of India had established their sub-brand 'YU' in late 2014 after OnePlus was established. The aim of YU was to provide 'endless' customization to its users and also they believed that users need to interact with their devices with complete freedom and access. This promise sure was fulfilled since they had a deal with Cyanogen Inc. and YU phones would have the latest OS updates. This was a great deal and we were expecting the price of their first hit to be high.

YU Yureka was their first phone launched in December, 2014. It has awesome specs like CM 11 - KitKat, Dual SIM with 4G LTE support, Octa-core snapdragon 615 with a huge 5.5" huge display. This was priced at INR 8,999 [$130]. This was really unbelievable and the ratio of features to price was the same as the ratio of OnePlus One. They however didn't have open sales and this was limited to Amazon. Also, registrations were required on an early-bird concept. During the weekly sales, registered members for the sale had completely bought thousands of their phone stock in a matter of half a minute. Later this phone was put for open sales. Many Indian tech YouTubers like +Geekyranjit , +C4ETech , +iGyaan  etc made reviews on this phone which were positive; yet there were 2 main issues with this phone because of the low end processor. Not saying that Snapdragon is bad, but a 615, seriously? A 615 wasn't enough to hold huge 2 GB RAM processes especially when you play games like Asphalt 8, CSR Racing etc. This lead to fast battery drainage and quick heating up. They even made 2 more phones. In India they had sued OnePlus for their Cyanogen phone sales and OnePlus was banned for sometime, but the growing demand had made it come back to the market. OnePlus was pretty upset with Cyanogen Inc. for dealing with an Indian sub-brand without their knowledge. But this is the business world after all. OnePlus and Cynogen broke up and hence came OxygenOS - OnePlus's own custom OS, similar to CyanogenMod.

Their Latest Product-

YU Yutopia is their latest product launched in Dec, 2015. Some posters were released teasing the launch of this product.

They claim this to be the world's most powerful phone. This caught my eyes into it. The teasers were appealing and I wanted to give this a shot.

They even mocked the OnePlus 2's sandstone back and also their wallpaper with the tagline 'Never Settle for 1080p'.

Let's move on to the features and specifications-

Design

YU Yutopia has a full metal body with no visibility of plastic which definitely gives you a premium look. The audio jack and microUSB port are placed on the centers of upper and lower parts.
Quick Charge capability is there which will help to charge the phone fast as the battery is huge too.
The best of the box packaging is the earphone set. Its from House of Marley including a premium set.
Dual SIM support with 4G LTE and you also will get an Airtel data pack offer with this phone. Very similar to the OnePlus X, Yutopia has 2 SIM slots along with 1 microSD slot. So the options are - 2 SIMS or 1 SIM and 1 microSD.

Display

A bit smaller than the YU Yureka, this phone stands proud with a 5.2" LCD screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels @ 565 ppi screen density. Which is a 2K display. The screen is protected with a corning concore glass.

Interior

With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor this phone claims to be the world's most powerful smartphone. It has a Quad-core 2.4 GHz (cortex A57) + Quad-core 1.5 GHz (cortex A53) and an Adreno 430 for it's graphics.

Memory

The Internal storage is 32 GB for this device. With an expandable storage via microSD up to 128 GB.

The RAM for this is 4 GB DDR 4. This is absolutely stunning and a lot provided. Definitely not many phones have 4 gigs of RAM. Ahem ahem, +OnePlus

Camera

YU Yutopia has a camera design very similar to that of the YU Yuphoria's signature. But the Saturn ring is absent, in this one...
It has a 21 MP rear camera along with an 8 MP companion in the rear side.
This package comes with an aperture of f/2.2 with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Also with a dual LED flash.

Video recording feature is wide. You can shoot amazing 4K videos and also HD 720p videos. The cyanogen camera app is perfect for this phone. It's fast and responsive.

Battery

The battery for this device is 3,000mAh this time, it will definitely hold the phone for longer time than the YU Yureka and hopes remain that heating issues will be minimized as much as possible.

Fingerprint Scanner

YU's first phone with a fingerprint scanner as it enters the new custom of having  fingerprint enabled security in the smartphone market. Thanfully, you don't have to press the lock button first and unlock. You can directly tap on the sensor placed behind, right below the camera.

Software

Currently powered by Cyanogen 12.1 based on Android L [5.1.1]. This will surely get an Over the Air update to Android M.

The price quoted for YU Yutopia is INR 24,999 [USD 369]. It's available on Amazon. For people interested to buy this in US click here! Surprisingly, the price in US is $649/-
