Computer Networking
Area Networks
Networking is categorized in different ways.
- Local Area Network or LAN - basically span a single home, school or office building
- Wide Area Network or WAN - They reach across large areas i.e.. city, states and even the world.
Network Design
Computer network may also differ in their design. The two basic forms are-
- Client/Server - Client-server networks feature centralized server computers that store email, Web pages, files and or applications.
- Peer-to-peer - All computers tend to do the same function.
A network topology represents its
layout or structure from the point of view of data flow. In so-called bus networks, for example, all of
the computers share and communicate across one common conduit, whereas in
a star network, all data flows
through one centralized device. Common types of network topologies include bus,
star, ring networks and mesh networks.
Network Protocols
Communication languages used by computing devices is called a network protocol. Popular protocols include TCIP/IP, it is a common protocol in Internet and Home Networking.
Home Networking
Business Networking
Businesses have additional communication, data storage and security. They require expanding their networks (large business)
