Windows 8.1

The New Windows 8.1 has a lot features added. We are able to use it and I guess users (Windows 8.1) are enjoying! Here are the new improvements

In the Start Menu, the new improvement is that the down arrow is there to view all the applications.

When the down arrow is clicked, all the apps will be displayed in alphabetical order.

The new 'Personalize' which is introduced new in Windows 8.1 (Not even available in Windows 8)  lets you choose which color you want to use for background and even the accent! It can be accessed by the right- hand menu and then in the Settings option(at the last) . But make sure that it has to be used in the Start Menu otherwise when in Desktop mode, it will show personalize the Desktop!

A minor difference in the desktop, as the start(windows icon) is displayed.

Multi-tasking: User can open more than 2 windows on a screen depending on the screen size.

By using 'SHARE' on the right-hand menu, you can share a screenshot to anybody through Mail.

PC Settings Here you can access the PC Settings directly by searching [Win+S>>>Type "PC Settings"] OR Pull the right hand menu; click on Settings and hit 'Change PC Settings'. This is basically a user-friendly version of Control Panel... But, you don't get all the Settings here.

In the Accounts option you can also add account(s) - with e-mail/without e-mail. As we know that in the earlier version, there could be only two types of users i.e. Standard and Administrator.

The administrator account would be like the main which can't be deleted and which controls many things where permission of this is required! But in Windows 8.1, there are three types of user accounts which are - Administrator, Standard User and Child Account...

Child account has two options of creating the account with/without the Child's e-mail.

Organize: You can now manage the size of apps in Start menu - small, medium, wide and large are the options.

Pre-installed apps: -

  • Skype - Since Microsoft owns Skype, it has been included in the Start Menu (Microsoft Account sign-in needed)
  • Finance - This app shows about all the stock markets. Latest economic news etc.
  • Kindle - The ultimate amazing app where you can read e-books.
  • McAfee Central - This is the Anti-Virus for your Windows PC
  • Others - Maps, Sports, Health, Netflix and Food and Drink.

How is Windows 8.1 better than Windows 7:

  • Booting time for Windows 8.1 is about 20 seconds; but in windows 7 and older versions takes 1-2 mins.
  • Synchronizing: Windows 8 and above versions sync with a Microsoft Account in many apps(including Skype) but in  Mail and Calendar you can sign in with other e-mail accounts. All the included account options are - Outlook, Yahoo!, Google, AOL and even Enterprise accounts!
  • Features: This is the first time ever Windows has included an application where you can obtain apps on your device! The app is : WINDOWS STORE. Here, you can get many apps... You also get the amazing XBox app which is one of the apps where you have to sign in with your Microsoft account.
  • Task Manager: Windows 8.1's task manager displays more information in the visual form withe graphical meters. It beautifully displays current apps running and background processes in a tabular form.
